ARCHITECTURE

Walking through the streets of the towns of Salento, what immediately catches the attention is the gilded stone of Lecce that embellishes the churches and most of the ancient palaces, the baroque curlicues that make them majestic and imposing, in particular the sacred places, and the dazzling white of the houses whose facades are painted with lime . Characteristic is also the mark left by the Byzantines with their churches and villas. The presence of these populations also led to the construction of defensive and sighting towers along the coast.

Salento architecture, therefore, represents a fundamental part of the territorial identity, fascinating the traveler with a leap into the past, where everything here speaks a language of other times, where time passes slowly and the days are marked by the sun.
